Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Gumpaste, wires, peony cutters, veiners for petals and leaves, peony leaf cutters, sparkle dust, petal dust, paint brushes, gumpaste tools, foam, formers What are you most proud of? I was able to apply the techniques the first time after watching this video which was clear and concise, and it never left me wondering about anything. Also, I was able to achieve the color I was looking for. I tried sparkle dust for the first time and was happy with what it added to the flower. The sparkles are larger than the effect of pearl dust, but not in particles big enough to see, like a grain of sugar. It adds a nice touch, especially for a wedding cake. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Practice with gum paste and be familiar with how to use it before starting this project. Learn the basics of frilling and ruffling. The Peony flower and leaves uses a fair amount of gum paste so it's best not to waste it until you are comfortable with using it. Also there are a lot of cheap household items that are useful for formers, so you don't have to spend a lot of money for them. Also, you do not necessarily have to use the identical cutters to achieve stunning results, so buy to fit your budget. I found watching a video was much more informative than trying to decifer written instructions.
