Project

China tea pot cake

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Wilton Sports ball pans, fondant, gum paste, color dust, vodka, paint brushes, blossom cutter, pearl dust, tooth picks, wooden skewer. What are you most proud of? This is my first attempt at painting on a cake. No stencil or markings were used. I painted leaves and stems free hand, and used blossom cutters to apply flowers to the cake. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Really not that difficult! Give it a try.

Q&A with Saskia Beaton

Artdawn asked:
What a lovely result, really well done, it looks so pretty and delicate
Saskia Beaton answered:
Thank you!
honey.wal1459663 asked:
Is there a cake pan or a mold pan for this cake.
Saskia Beaton answered:
I used the Wilton sports ball pans to create the round ball shaped cake. The spout and handle were formed by hand from gumpaste and attached with toothpicks and a skewer.
K Richards asked:
Saskia, this cake is amazing, it actually looks real...Wow!
Saskia Beaton answered:
Thank you so much! :)
hhorton35773691 asked:
Absolutely beautiful! :) Can you do this on a buttercream cake, or does it have to be on fondant?
Saskia Beaton answered:
Not sure, perhaps someone reading this and knows the answer can comment?
destined_0 asked:
How did you make the handle?
Saskia Beaton answered:
I used gum paste and toothpicks to insert into side of cake.
