Birthday Gift Box Cake

Do you sell this cake? Yes (locally only) Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake I made this for my sister. The bottom part of the "box" is buttercream covered cake. The top is a thin slice of cake on a board covered in fondant. Next time I'll just use core board. But this was my first - live and learn! The bow, tissue paper, dots and stripes are fondant. What are you most proud of? My sister loved it! The tissue paper and bow turned out great. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Definitely mix your fondant with some tylose or use gumpaste so that the bow holds its form faster/better also you will have less breakage.I didn't wait until the icing crusted over on the cake before adding the lines - I would've had a much smoother cake had I waited. I wanted to put some pearls and other items under the lid but I ran out of time making it.

Q&A with DeannaSB

chocolate art asked:
how did you do the lid so it would hold up, off set like that. I love it!!
DeannaSB answered:
Its a thin piece of cake sitting on cardboard. If i ever make another I won't make the lid with cake.
