Bichon Frise Cake

Project Description

Do you sell this cake? Yes Link to website or online shop www.facebook.com/Ldcakerynwa Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake 3-layers of 8" round chocolate cake for body and 3, 5" rounds cut from large sheet cake for head. I used Swiss meringue buttercream with variations of raspberry and mocha for the filling in the head and body, respectively. From start to finish took me appx. 10 hours to complete. I also used Elisa's video on YouTube for faux wood to make the base. I made my own marshmallow fondant (liz Merick's recipe) to cover the dog. What are you most proud of? How realistic it turned out. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Unfortunately, the head of the dog slid off prior to the guests cutting :( I really wish I would have used a different center support system, other than a dowel. I usually use a threaded pipe (covered in saran wrap) for the central support but I went with the dowel and later wish I hadn't. The extra weight from all the added fondant details to make the pom pom like hair for this dog, is what did it in, I think. So take that into consideration when choosing your central support.
