Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Chocolate cake, peppermint buttercream, fondant, rolling cutter, exacto blade, rolling pin, non-stick mat, paintbrushes, lots of patience. What are you most proud of? I am most proud of the face, I felt it was very clean, sharp and defined. I used a steamer to lightly mist the fondant when I was finished which gave the fondant shine. This must be done very carefully or else you will make the fondant sweat and the colours run. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Be extremely methodical, plan, plan, plan. I made a template, then mapped out the template with the colours I was going to use, I then proceeded to cut out the shapes in paper which allowed me to use them as patterns for the fondant. Take your time, this is not something that can be rushed, I found one of the hardest aspects was enrobing the odd shape with the light blue fondant, it was not perfect and I ended up with some excess at one side. Since it was my first cake like this I just carried on. It tasted fantastic and was a hit!
