Learn How You Can be Honored by Leaders in the Photographic Community

Many photographers, be they beginners or pros, discover that photo contests are about more that great prizes. In today’s digital world we create so many images and unless we're working on a project like a book or a slideshow we often don’t really sit and really, really look at and consider the images we’ve made.

Photo contests are an opportunity to do just that. As you review images that might be appropriate to enter you’re also giving yourself the time to see how you’ve evolved as photographer and often the chance to discover the “a-ha!” shot you overlooked before.

Santa Fe Photographic Workshops offers a photo contest every year. For 2015, the theme is TRAVELS. Whether it’s a cross-town neighborhood you’ve yet to explore or the wilds of Easter Island, travel opens our eyes to the world around us. Through the lens, we experience different cultures and environments more deeply and perhaps understand our place in the world more fully. The TRAVELS contest is your opportunity to reveal your journeys, from the far-flung to just the around the corner, in color or in black-and-white, using tools that range from digital and film cameras to alternative processes, to iPhones.

When you enter a Santa Fe Workshops photo contest, you are joining an international community of photographers and sharing your images with distinguished judges.

The following esteemed panel of jurors will review the TRAVELS contest entries and select the contest winners:

  • Dan Westergren, Director of Photography, National Geographic Travel
  • Jim Richardson, Photographer, Regular Contributor to National Geographic Traveler magazine
  • Margy Dudley, Owner, Open Shutter Gallery
  • Reid Callanan, Director, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops

Each year, Santa Fe Workshops educational partners and sponsors contributed to an impressive prize list. For the TRAVELS contest, the prize list has a total value of over $9,000. Entrants have the opportunity to win one grand prize, one second prize, one third prize or one of 46 honorable mentions. Entrants who are alumni are eligible to win one Workshops Director’s Award.
