Meet our friends Rick and Sasha Reichart, the owners of cakelava, an innovative cake design company located in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii.
Throughout the years, Rick and his designs have been featured on Food Network Challenge, in People, and in numerous national and international wedding and cake-industry publications. And, he is an instructor with over 20 years experience in L.A., Seattle and Hawaii. Sasha began her culinary career in Seattle and L.A. before leaving to open cakelava with Rick.
Now, this dynamic duo has written Extreme Cakeovers, a book that will help you make show-stopping desserts with store-bought sheet cakes or frozen pound cakes.
If you’d like to win this amazing book, just enter our Extreme Cakeovers Contest by July 29, 2013 (11:59PM MDT).
On July 30th we will randomly select four lucky winners, and each will receive their own copy of the book.
Even if you’ve never tried to decorate a cake before, this book will help you turn any purchased sheet cake or frozen pound cake into forty unique designs.
The aquarium cake, complete with adorable fish, seaweed, red coral, and gravel is our favorite! Other fun options that really stood out to us include a realistic turntable, a colorful day of the dead cake, and the faux steak dinner. With this book, you’ll soon enjoy magical cake-making with recipes for:
- Fashioning robot hands from chocolate-covered doughnuts
- Making Fruit Roll-ups blossom into a bouquet of red roses
- Rolling Rice Krispies Treats and Swedish Fish into realistic sushi
- Stringing a pretty strand of gumball pearls
- Creating a train smokestack from an ice cream cone and marshmallow
- And more!
