Brandied Cherry and Almond Pie

Cherry pie is my favorite, and the filling for this pie is divine, redolent with rich cherry flavor and fragrant almond aroma. I enjoyed knocking myself out on the lattice crust, with cherry cutouts and little leaves decorating the crust edge. I first wove the lattice strips on a parchment-lined cookie sheet, placed it in the freezer for 10 minutes, then transferred the semi-frozen lattice to the pie top, before adding the cherry and leaf cutouts, and sprinkling with sparkling sugar. Another tip: after decorating the pie crust, place the unbaked pie in the freezer for 1/2 hour or so to set the crust decorations so they don't lose shape when the pie is baked.
