About the Designer:

Sheila Zachariae

Sheila Zachariae

I was taught to knit by my mother in my teens in the '70's and I quickly went from that to cross stitch and then needlepoint. Life goes on to a full time job, marriage, a child and then in early in 2004, I was forced to stay off my feet. I pick up the needles and started with knitting a scarf and then another, and then another! Next thing I know, I have 50 of them! Off to a local art gallery I go to peddle my wares! They loved and sold them all! Creative Design was born! Three upscale children's boutiques and women's wear shops later, here I am! Fingers flyin' with an Etsy shop sheilalikestoknit and lovin' Craftsy! I can most often be found in "my chair" surrounded by a pile of yarn, fabric, more yarn, needles, another pile of yarn, patterns, more fabric...etc! We love to travel, eat good food, be with family and great friends! Knitwear: my handmade knitwear is lovingly created by me! The process of choosing great fabric and yarn colors is half the fun! Knitting it all up and seeing it come together is wonderful and the final moment of seeing this creation around someones neck, on a little body, noggin or in their stroller is the BEST! I have been lucky enough to receive wonderful photos and I keep them ALL! My Philosophy: I am committed to quality fabric and fiber. Attention to detail, craftsmanship and customer satisfaction will always be part of that philosophy.

Excellent Fabulous Fun!  March 9, 2013

I finally found the time to make this classic cabled cowl! The best thing is that I made it for me. Already my good friend Barb has asked for one. What a great quick gift for someone special!

Excellent Easy for beginners  January 8, 2013

I'm a beginner when it comes to knitting. The instructions are easy to follow. I wish there was a short video on how to do the cables section though.

Excellent Great workshop!  December 28, 2012

I attempted cables before, but were frustrated by them. I finished this cowl in a day (ok, a full day of knitting and no one bothered me on vacation!) and it was very easy. This was my first attempt at following a pattern (and I found using a row counter to be very helpful). My 15 year old knitter liked mine so much and loved the idea of making cables that she's going to attempt it too!

Excellent Great Skill-Building Workshop!!  October 19, 2012

I have always been afraid to try cables, yet I soooo wanted to create them. Then I saw this workshop. With the chunky yarn, big sticks, and assurances that even a beginner could do this, I felt like I should give it a go. That it was so inexpensive a risk AND I'd get a fabulous end product (I adore cowls, and this one is gorgeous), well, that sealed it. I bought in and began! When I did hit a rough patch (my brain wasn't "getting it" at one point), the previous notes/comments helped...and the ...

Excellent Great and easy pattern!  September 24, 2012

First time I'm doing cables... and I already love it! I'm a rookie knitter but the pattern was really very well explained and easy to do, surprisingly addictive and quite fast to do! My only mistake was to buy not the proper yarn... I live in Italy and I couldn't find the right one so my cowl now is a bit scanty :( I'll search for a better yarn and try again! It was so easy... and I think it's perfect as a gift!

Excellent Love it!!!  September 14, 2012

I loved the finished product, the pattern was well written. Although I knew how to do it all I just wanted to see how it was written & if I could possibly do the lace class. Is that class written small step by small step??? I have tried lace before only to rip& rip & rip some more till ya wanna puke!!! Let me know, in the meantime I have a lovely shade of goldenrod & am visiting the Windsor Button Shop in Boston tomorrow. I think we are gonna be eating raamen noodles for a ...

Excellent Quick and easy  September 6, 2012

I just learned how to knit cables as part of the building blocks program, and I was looking for a project to keep practicing my skills. This cowl was super easy to knit up and the cable work was a piece of cake. I used stitch markers after I finished each cowl. I don't like the buttons that I had picked out to go with my yarn, so I'm going to find some that I like better, but that is the only thing I've left to do. If you want a project that is fast, this one is a good bet.

Excellent Great pattern!  August 31, 2012

I love this pattern! It moves so quickly and it made cables so easy! I made one for myself, then followed it up with 3 for Christmas gifts last year, one for my daughter and one (that I still need to sew buttons onto) for a future gift. I will definitely use it again. Thank you!!

Excellent Great confidence builder!!  August 6, 2012

This was a **wonderful** intro to cables! I always thought cables were above me until I took this workshop. Since the cowl uses a chunky yarn, it knits up quickly and easily. The only recommendation- the cowl is a little long.. next time I'll repeat the cable rows 4x rather than 5x.

Excellent HA I did it  March 10, 2012

When I was in my 20's I tried cables and my Mom laughed at me as it made me so nervous that I just quit knitting. In my now "late" age I decided to give it a try. On the first cowl I had to pull out a row or two, but then everything went smoothly. So made a second one for my Mom, just sending it this week. Will see her reaction. Thanks for the pattern, enjoyed it, but still not good enough to just go along, I am slow and watch every row very carefully.

Excellent Classic Cabled Cowl  January 11, 2012

I am relatively new to knitting and decided to give this workshop a try. I just finished my cowl and, even if I have to say so myself, it turned out great. The instructions were clear and concise and very easy to follow. Can't wait to get out the door and buy some more yarn to make another. Give this a try. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent Very Nice Pattern and Clear Instructions  January 3, 2012

I haven't had a chance to take any pictures yet, but I have finished one of these scarves. It was very quick and easy to do - my first attempt at cables. The pattern instruction and photos provided are very easy to understand. The end product is very nice and I'm going to be making several more at least. If you're new to cables or knitting in general, or if you just want a great accessory for yourself and as gifts, this workshop is well worth signing up for.

A finished piece! I completed this easily in three evenings, and did not have to frog it once! This is the first piece I've done, and although it isn't perfect, I just love it! Can't wait to see what else you've got for us.

Your instructions were clear and easy to follow, thanks for that.
