Crocheted stuffed animals are often called amigurumi (ah-mee-guh-roo-mee), but don't let the hard-to-pronounce word scare you off! Amigurumi is just a fancy name for crocheted (and irresistible adorable!) stuffed animals. And if you can single crochet, then you can make a stuffed animal...they're not too difficult!
In this workshop, I'll lead you step-by-step through making an adorable monster (mine's named Roosevelt, but you can call yours whatever you'd like). While making this monster, you'll learn all of the skills needed to make amigurumi: how to work in the round, tips for counting, how to change colors cleanly, how to attach pieces and some tips for stuffing. Once you're finished, you'll be equipped to make almost any amigurumi that you lay your eyes on!
My monster is made with medium-weight sock yarn, but I encourage you to be creative! This pattern doesn't call for a specific gauge; as long as you use a crochet hook that suits your yarn, you can use any weight yarn you'd like. You can also play around with the color combinations. Wouldn't he be a cutie in rainbow colors? Talk about a great way to use leftover yarn.
Note: Many people who begin making amigurumi have no experience with (or say they're terrible at) seaming and sewing...and that's perfectly fine! I'll show you everything you need to know.
I hope you join me in learning the tips and techniques for making awesome amigurumi. One warning though: once you start, you may not want to stop!
