One Skein Knit Shrug

Knit a quick & easy wardrobe staple

Knit along with me as I cast on, work sleeve increases, and show you how to pick up stitches, bind off in ribbing, and invisibly weave in ends. This workshop includes the full pattern for a top-down, seamless versatile shrug that is flattering on a wide range of figures. You’ll also get step-by-step photographs, printable instructions and access to discussions, tips, questions and more!

As the temperatures change, you may find yourself wishing for a little something on your shoulders to keep out the chill, but not ready for a whole sweater. This little shrug is the answer. Knit using just one skein (larger sizes may need a bit more) of Cascade 220 yarn, it’s a great weekend project. Start this on Friday night and wear it to work or school on Monday!

The project is shown knit in Cascade 220 and US8 (5mm) needles for a very clean, sophisticated look. Make it once with the materials suggested, and you’ll have the confidence to create different looks by switching up the yarn, needles, and making changes to sleeve length and width of the ribbing. Make several and keep one in your bag to throw on at a moment’s notice

Sized to fit: Shoulder-to-shoulder measurement: 13 – 19 inches (32.5 - 47 .5 cm).

Excellent A quick, fun project  January 14, 2012

woodmom

This was a quick, fun project to knit. I finished it in one weekend. The photos helped me to learn some new techniques, especially the correct way to pick up stitches and how to weave in the tail ends. I also used the magic loop method for the first time, The fit is snug, so for my daughter, I went up a size. You can try the shrug on before you knit the ribbing to see if you want it larger or longer in the back. I will make more of these, but will make them about 2 sizes larger than the ...

Average Loved the concept, needs some clarifications  December 12, 2011

I loved the concept of the One Skein Knit Shrug, but unless you're knitting for a child, this is not a 1-skein project. I also found the shoulder-to-shoulder measurements to be inaccurate.

I finished the workshop with an 11" wide shrug after making the shrug to the 14" instructions. I myself am a small person with a 13" cross back measurement. My gauge matched the instructions before washing, and was larger after washing. Even then the shrug was way too small to fit any of the ...

This is my first workshop with Craftsy and first knit-along and I love every minute of it. The instructions are clear and the designer is very prompt in responding to questions.

Good My daughter loves it  November 15, 2011

I loved the idea of a one-skein shrug. I'd been looking for something suitable for my 17 year old who loves strapless dresses, but they don't meet with the school dress code. This is something she can pop on over her spaghetti straps or strapless dresses to be school -cool, and can use on those days when the weather may be too cool for sleeveless, but she wants to waer it anyway (a true teenager).

For constructive criticism... Please correct the sizes and parenthetical info so they ...

Excellent Just Right!  November 6, 2011

I loved this workshop! The pattern is very easy to follow. The pictures help a lot! It was great to be able to ask questions and to see others' questions before asking my own.

The amount of time & materials needed to complete the workshop made it very satisfying and affordable. I've now made 5 of these little shrugs for gifts (and one for myself). They take almost no time at all and are very easy to alter in both size and details. No two of my shrugs looks alike, but all are ...

Excellent i love craftsy workshops!  November 3, 2011

brideofsin

i thought that this was a really ingenious format. loved that i could ask questions and most of the time have them answered by the designer herself. i also loved being able to read the advice of other knitters because sometimes a designer can be so familiar with their design that they don't notice the little errors that a fresh set of eyes can. i would recommend Craftsy knitting workshops, even for advanced knitters. i have dabbled in design and consider myself intimately acquainted with ...

Excellent Great Idea!  November 2, 2011

I'm really digging these workshops. I was offered to try it for free and I'm so happy!!! I'm more likely to participate in these smaller "classes" that cost a little less but still allow me to have a completed project when I'm finished.

This was a great project and it was the first time for me to make apparel with knitting and it came out perfect! Stefanie is an excellent teacher and I loved that we had access to her as well as others to help answer questions that we may have had ...

I loved this workshop ! The directions were very easy to follow and understand and the addition of photos really helped too. I would highly recommend this workshop for beginners who want to move on to garments or for anyone who wants a super fun quick project to knit up fast!

Excellent Most informative!  October 24, 2011

Racedogmom

I have not cast-on yet. Not until after Socktober is finished in the Ravelry group. But I've been wanting to try making a shrug. I purchased 3 online knitting classes so far & hope more will be added. These mini-courses are great. I was surprised that they did not include video, but it makes sense since the cost is less. The designer support is truly fantastic! Sign me up for any class you offer on Toe-Up-Sock-Knitting or Magic-Loop-Sock-Knitting or Make-Your-Own-First-Sweater !!

Excellent Wonderful Shrug  October 20, 2011

Spikeychic

I loved the easy to follow directions. They were easy to follow and the photos made it very easy to see if I was doing it right. It worked up very easily and looks so cute. I will be making quite a few of these for my loved ones. Such a great thing for So Cal since nights can turn a bit chilli after a day in the sun. It's small enough to just throw in your bag and go. So glad I had the opportunity to make this one.
