Body Butters & Lip Balms

Homemade luxury from head to toe

Salves are easy, handy, healing skin-savers and great to carry in your purse or pocket. Most commercial salves like Vaseline are made with petroleum products which are bad for the environment and many believe bad for your skin. Salves can take a myriad of possible forms: from the vapor rub which you will learn to make in this workshop, to a cuticle ointment, a foot balm ... the list is as long as your creativity.

A body butter is pretty much heaven for your skin. Nothing feels so decadent as to slather yourself in an all-natural body butter from face to toes. And the best part is that it is so easy to make that you will never have to pay for an overpriced, chemical-filled moisturizer again!

Everybody uses lip balm so it's the perfect gift for men, women and children for every occasion. It is easy and inexpensive to make and soothes the sensitive skin of your lips without polluting them with a petroleum-based product. You can put lip balm into tubes, jars or cute slider tins. You can add color, essential oils or flavor oils depending on your mood. By adding color, you can make your own lip gloss which is good considering the FDA recently found lead in over 400 lipsticks that they tested. So make your pucker perfect without poisoning yourself or your family!

About the Designer:

Alia Diez

Alia Diez

A former TV producer, Alia Einstein-Diez started making bath and body crafts soon after her daughter was born. Having always been hypersensitive to chemicals and fragrances in commercial products (even so-called 'natural' body products), when her baby turned out to be equally sensitive she started making her own soaps, herbal oils, butters, bath bombs and much more. Once she started, she couldn't stop! At first she gave all of her extra all-natural bath creations to friends and family. Finally, she started her own business Gaia's Kiss. A crafting maniac and passionate about all-things-hand-made, Alia is always looking for ways to add more crafting creativity to the business - such as making soap sacks, hand-made soap dishes, shaving mugs, and putting herbs she grows in her garden into her products. Alia lives in Denver with her husband, daughter, son and shetland sheepdog.

Excellent A wonderful treat  April 16, 2013

The instructions are very clear and the recipes feel and smell wonderful. Given that organic personal care products are hard to find and very expensive to buy, I was thrilled to see Craftsy offer a workshop on how to make lip balms and body butters with home ingredients costing pennies per batch. I can pick the fragrances and the oils I use. The instructions are very easy to understand and the discussions with the instructors and other students give even more delicious ideas. I will be quick ...

Excellent Great ideas, great workshop!  March 30, 2013

Absolutely love it! I've always been very allergic to the chemicals they use in store body lotions and body butters so I'm really grateful for this workshop. Carry on with the good work, looking forward to more workshops like this one!

Good Very helpful  February 13, 2013

I had made body butters on my own before, but never could get the consistency I wanted. This workshop broke it down. How easy! I have not tried the salve or the lip balms yet, but I plan to. Very nice workshop.

Excellent Fun, easy and a great finished product  January 11, 2013

I made some salves and lip balms. It was very easy and didn't make much of a mess. I have a tiny kitchen, and it worked out well. I ordered everything I needed from Amazon for salves and lip balms, including a really nice essential oil set, tubes for the lip balms, and some little tins for lip balms and salves. It was a lot of fun to come up with different oil combinations for aromatherapy applications. Love it!

Excellent Great Workshopl & Teacher  November 28, 2012

Alia was fantastic! She was very quick to answer students questions. I was able to read all of the questions and answers and gather the information I needed. My products turned out great and I am looking forward to trying many different recipes in the future. This workshop gave me the basic tools I needed to experiment!

Excellent Wonderful  October 2, 2012

I have made both lip balm recipes, with some substitutions that were suggested based on ingredients I had, and they turned out great! I'm thankful to have Alia available for questions. Because of her, I was able to go forward with the ingredients I had rather than waiting for them to be ordered because they are not available in my town. This was my first workshop, I've taken a few classes, in some ways I preferred this method because I was able to jump right in and experiment on my own. That ...

This is an outstanding workshop! The instructions and photos are clear and demonstrate all the steps. The quality of the products I made is far above any I have ever bought. And, it's easy to make these things.

I read the directions several times and printed them so I could refer to the steps during the process. My results were wonderful!

I highly recommend this workshop (and the soap making workshop). It's easy, fun, fast, and you will end up with outstanding ...

Excellent Alia body butter and lip balms class  May 28, 2012

If you want to learn how to make healthy body butters and lip balms, then this is the class for you.
There is no need for video with this class, because the photos are so well done. Taken at 'just the right time'.
The salve recipe is great and really helps stiff, sore muscles. I have not yet made the other recipes, but expect they will be just as good. I have taken the soap making class with Alia as well and in both classes have found her to be friendly, thoughtful and very ...

Excellent Excellent workshop  May 13, 2012

The workshop is well written and the photos are helpful. Alia has been really helpful and quick in responding.
It was really quick and easy to make the body butter and lip balm, it took about an hour in total for the two and made loads. Alia gives a really good starting point with the recipes and ideas for variations and experimentation.
I am looking forward to making more butters and balms and my friends are certainly enjoying efforts :)

Excellent Wonderful workshop by Alia Diez!  April 29, 2012

Alia Diez's Body Butters & Lip Balms workshop is so well-thought out. There's step-by-step instructions that were clear and easy to understand. The pictures complimented the instructions very well. Best of all, Alia is a great help and responds to questions I had fairly quickly! I love this platform! I was a little taken aback by the prices of things while gathering tools and ingredrients, but, I'm now convinced that experiencing making my own butters and balms and knowing exactly what is in ...

Excellent Fun and so easy!  April 15, 2012

I was excited to see this class offered. So far I have made the lip balm and the body butter. The instuctions are clear and I was surprised how easy it is to make awesome products for myself (and for gifts!). The recipes come together quickly too, which is nice because I have time to get it done while my son naps. No more shelling out big bucks for natural body products when I can make them myself! The body butter is amazing! The instructor is very fast at answering questions. I am really glad ...

Excellent Best Workshop!!  April 13, 2012

This is the greatest workshop if you want to learn all about various body products. The instructions are very detailed and there are so many fun variations to try. Sure, there may be 'similar recipes' floating around on the net, but in this workshop you have the teacher, Alia, who cheerfully answers your questions, in detail. She is extremely knowledgeable and passes her knowledge to you, when you ask questions, super fast with all of her creativity. Don't miss this workshop. I've had a blast.

Excellent Great Class - Projects Completed!  April 5, 2012

Hi Alia. Thanks again for this wonderful class. I updated this review because even without videos your photos and explanations were great. I made all four recipes yesterday and they all turned out fantastic. With the body butter before adding the EO I split the batch. One half is lemongrass and lavender and I made the other sandalwood and rose. I love them both. Also, I used almond oil instead of walnut oil in the lip balm. Both lip balms are good lip softeners. The salve is great ...
