I used to sew when my girls were young but haven't in a long time. My husband had served with Samaritan's Purse doing surgeries foe the poor in Kenya, Africa and soon talked me into going with him to Tenwek hospital. Well, I went, and I fell in love with Umoja Children's Orphanage. There were about 50 kids. Sad to say, the conditions there were very rural and very poor. The kids wore rags, ate corn meal mush for almost every meal and had no toys to play with. I now have about 60 dresses plus boys shorts and shirts to take back on Dec 30 of this year. I took sewing lessons so I could sew for the kids so they could wear something other than torn dresses and shirts. Most of them have no shoes either. Can you imagine? They are truly great kids and I just fell in love with them. They love visitors and show you much hospitality when you visit their orphanage. My heart feels for them everyday. So, that is why I sew!!
