I'm a retired elementary teacher who moved to Florida after teaching in Iowa and Illinois. My best friend's husband(also a dear friend) died of cancer in 2008. I wanted to do something very special to remember him and asked my mom to teach me to quilt. I made my first quilt for my friend...letting her pick out the fabric. Wow, was that a learning experience! It was worth it when she called me and was crying so hard that she could barely get the words out telling me how much it meant to her. From that moment I was hooked! I've made remembrance quilts, retirement quilts, baby quilts, lap quilts, and many charity quilts since that day. It gives me so much joy that my creation can bring someone comfort or happiness. It is a gift that just keeps on giving as long as the person is using the quilt.
