My mom started me sewing when I was 6. I would on her lap while she sewed and would "help" her. Then abouta year later,.my gramma stated teaching me how to crochet. When I was in the 3rd grade, I crocheted myself a turquoise colored dress and proudly wore it to school!! Lol!! For Christmas that year, all I wanted was a toy sewing machine so I could start sewing myself. Well, little did I know that Santa would bring me my very own Singer sewing machine!! I was sooo happy!!! I was so proud if myself as I sewed my own patchwork baby doll quilts, a baby doll stroller seat, baby & barbie doll clothes, then....my own clothes. My other gramma taught me to knit when I was 11, but, I haven't spent as much time doing that as u have sewing & crocheting. Back to sewing.....when I was in high school, I took ask the home ec classes I could. While everyone else was making an apron, best, or pillow....i made myself a skirt and blouse then helped other students with their projects. I also took shop & hand wood classes. I made myself a desk, that I have now had for 30 years. In early 1998, my daughter was ten months old & I'm crocheting an afghan for my mom that has nine balls of yarn attached to it. So, every time I completed a row,i would have to flip the afghan then juggle my yarn to get it back in order. So, I came up with a boxto keep the yarn separated, in order, and kept it from getting tangled. I called it The Yarn Flipper. I ended up getting the box patented, but didnt have the money to market it. I still have about three hundred of the boxes from having them produced.... If anyone is interested in getting info on the box you can contact me here and I can get some info to you. I can sell the boxes for about $20.00.....and that would include shipping. Today, I live to sew, vetiver, knit, cross-stitch, upholstery, woodworking projects, remodeling and home building, typing. I like to think I can do anything I set my mind to do. :-)
