I've been crafting most of my life. I had an insatiable desire for Barbie clothes as a child and my mother taught me to use the sewing machine when I was five or six. Embroidery and crochet were actually taught at my primary school as part of the art curriculum. I taught myself to knit in my late teens and when my daughter was born I started making cakes for her using Wilton shaped pans. I've done ceramics, welding and some carpentry. In 2005 I signed up for a cake decorating course hoping to learn to finish my desserts more professionally. What I learned was how to make gumpaste flowers, pistillage pieces and fondant covered cakes. This has become my primary outlet for my creativity though I still mostly do cakes for friends and family. It is my dream to one day be able to make that step to full time cake decorator.
