I enjoy any process that allows me to create something by hand. My mother taught me to knit when I was six years old. Around that same age, my grandmother taught me to darn socks Thanks to that experience, I started collecting and now own quite a collection of darning eggs. I used to love to sit and watch her sew on her Singer treddle sewing machine (which I inherited and now holds a prominent place in my home along with several of her thimbles). When I was a Brownie Scout, I made a Christmas apron by hand for my mother in order to earn my sewing badge. I still remember the enjoyment of sewing big white ric-rac on that bright red fabric. When I was in college, a friend taught me to sew and I received my very first sewing machine for Christmas that year. It was one of Sears' very first zigzag models and, I swear, it weighed a ton. It has, however, withstood the test of time and I still sew on it to this day. I continued to knit and sew and eventually took classes to learn crocheting, ceramics, tatting, cross-stitch, flower arranging, spinning, weaving, beading, needlepoint, wood carving, rug hooking, rug braiding and kumihimo. I have taught myself quilting, hardanger and candlemaking. I now enjoy combining techniques I have learned over the years into multi-media projects. For the future, my goal is to pursue opportunities to learn new creative arts and expand upon the techniques of those I already know. I feel fotunate to have a creative ability and always do my best to enourage and teach what I have learned to others. After all, someone took the time with me so now it is my turn to carry that forward.
