When I was 5 years old my next door neighbour would always ask my mum if I would like to help her make her cakes, which was when my love of baking and my very sweet tooth began. I got a 'warm bake oven' (easy bake oven rip off) and a 'play-doh fun factory' when I was 6 which only helped fuel my creativity, although accidents with both toys should have put me off but didn't. In England the warm bake ovens used boiling water to cook the cakes leading to me accidently pouring scalding water from the kettle over my chest then for some reason on another occasion I decided to push play-doh up both nostrils and accidently breathing it in higher causing me to have a panic attack, flay around the room screaming then knock myself out against the wall. Never sure which avenue to go down after leaving school I trained to be a chef, an interior designer then still unsatisfied I went to art collage to study sculpture with the desire to make props and film sets as watching 'Alien' as a kid and seeing Giger's designs blew my mind. Years later after failing to bother putting the effort in after leaving collage and ending up as a labourer it was then I knew what I wanted, to combine everything...cake, design and art. Some people are impressed by architecture, the art of words in literature, a landscaped garden or amazing views from foreign lands. Me, I love all these things but nothing impresses me more than a beautifully hand crafted cake with detail that shouldn't be possible using food, such as the cakes commissioned by Queen Victoria and then later those cakes using the Joseph Lambeth technique. So here I am, checking out JJ's classes and I think there great, something to be learnt even for more advanced decorators. His classes are clear and informative and he's very easy to watch which makes it even better.
