I was inspired to knit by my momma's grandma. While on one of her last visits out of Leon Guanajuato, Mexico, she was making a pair of crochet slippers. She showed me how to make a basic chain. I got far enough to make a small square, but being around 7-9 yrs-old lost patience w it & quit.
Then About 3 years ago, I was inspired by a book called The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs. The main character in it finds herself alone, jobless & pregnant in New York City. She saves herself with her amazing as yet untapped knitting talent, earning enough to support herself from her knitting work. A woman in trouble, becomes an independent single parent who builds her own community. Eventually opening a knit shop where she hosts a Friday Night Knit Club.
The Friday Night Knit Club women are from all different walks of life. They come together to knit and support one another's endeavors in life. The are so very different and their knitting reflects who they are in the world. The impatient one knits really tight stitches, conservative one works with small lacey yarns, the creative one lanches a career w Vogue Knitting with her Perry Purses etc. It seemed like such a wonderful support system that I craved that for myself.
Recently, I bought some knitted headbands that I found two wide for my own taste. So I set out to learn to knit & make my own more narrow ones. I remembered how much I wanted to learn to knit after reading it.
So for the past 3 weeks I have been knitting using the free internet videos I could find.I have yet to make one. But I have made two baby hats from learning from a YouTube video, & I'm working on the scarf outlined in the Introduction to Knitting Class found here.
I love knitting because it quiets my mind & I can come away w a beautiful product in the end.
