In school I was tought more or less basic sewing, knitting, crochet (even lace!), embroidery skills and some fabric printing and dying.
I hated it because we almost never made anything useful (projectwise).
Some time during university I found out that it is quite calming to keep my hands busy and getting back to sewing could save me a bunch of money on clothes by fixing the bigger stuff myself and refashioning old duds.

Some time during university I found out that it is quite calming to keep my hands busy and getting back to sewing could save me a bunch of money on clothes by fixing the bigger stuff myself and refashioning old duds.
Well, nowadays I mostly sew clothes, do some knitting, don't crochet a lot but quilt my fabric scraps away. I always loved anything food related.
I usually stick to projects that are needed in some way or other and not just produce 'stuff'. I wish we had done that in school, too.
