I am a PhD student and use sewing as a way to relax. I've been sewing on and off since I was probably 7 or 8 years old but back then I did everything by hand and mostly made up things as I went along. Most projects never reached the finish line because sewing by hand was just too slow for my usually a bit overly ambitious projects.
