I'm an American living in Dubai with my husband who is from England. I've lived here for about 2 years and I'm enjoying learning about the Arabic culture, although it's a very mixed society with lots of expats living here. Many people come here to help train the locals in doing business the western way. I've enjoyed meeting all kinds of people from around the world.
Many women who come here with their husbands join "coffee mornings" where they get together to have some down time with the ladies. I belong to a craft group who get together every Tuesday to work on their favorite crafts. Some crochet, some knit, some do cross stitch or string jewelry. We all do different things but we share a love of crafting.
There is only one dedicated craft store in Dubai, so it's not easy to find crafting items. Many of us bring back yarn and other things from trips we make to other countries. Since my husband travels to the states frequently I ask him to bring back items that I can't find here. Many's the time he has made a foray out into the wilds of a big city in the States in order to find my yarn. That's love!!
It's great to have an on-line crafting community. I'm so happy to have Craftsy in my life so that I can connect with other like minded people and also because I can take classes from home! There are not a lot of people who teach crafts here so this is a real Godsend to me! Happy Crafting from Dubai.
