I've been sewing since I was 15 encouraged by my mother. As the years passed I sewed little outfits for my daughter, gowns for my teenage daughters, designer- and vintage fashion for myself. I like the challenge of the last two, bringing my skills up to a higher level. My latest project was a dress block to my personal measurement. It took me all winter constructing a basic muslin dress, altering and transferring changes to the tissue pattern. This was hard work and absolutely boring but worthwhile, as I can alter my purchased pattern before cutting the fabric. I construct the dress and it fits. Also I can design my own things - simple blouses, dresses and skirts. Sometimes I enjoy knitting, mostly socks, as I'm rather self conscious about sweaters - they are always a major disaster, and looking for sock patterns I found this site with various courses - further skills for my dress making and maybe I could learn to knit a sweater I could wear!
