My grandmother and mother were, both, professional knitters for special orders through high fashion department stores in Beverly Hills in the 1950's and 1960's. I learned to knit by watching them and listening as they described the pattern abbreviations. My first project was knitted from "scratch" using my own measurements for a tank top, in two alternating colors of stripes; I was 13 years old. I still like to work from scratch, but will follow a pattern if it is really appealing. My inspiration is for lots of color that evokes memories of beautiful landscapes I have seen. I like impressionistic yarns like hand dyed and self-striping. I have an original, unique style that I utilize often, adding beads, tassels and other objects to create textures in the yarn.
