About (let's see, my first quilt was for my brother's wedding & he's been married 12 years?) 12 years ago, I had 2 very crafty friends at work who got into quilting. I expressed an interest and they invited me to join them at one of their get-togethers. Great. I'll bring my sewing machine, scissors ...(they laughed). You don't use scissors to cut the fabric. It's called a rotary cutter. Ok, I'll go get that. I was told not to purchase anything just yet. Borrow their equipment & make sure I like it first. I met with them and was warned at that point that quilting is very addicting once you start. Ok, whatever. Addicting is an understatement. I purchased the stuff I needed and have been quilting ever since.
Of all the quilts I've made, I've only kept 2 for myself. All the "kids" (nephews, nieces, etc..) who graduate high school have all gotten a quilt that shows their individual personalities. Even the boys look forward to them. I love it.
In the past year or so, I've created yet another group that started with my sister-in-law who expressed an interest (she was also warned about the addiction) who got her neighbors involved and about 8 other people. So, we have our group and I also get together with the 2 originals (we live in different areas - hence separate groups) still. I cannot tell you how much fun it has been. It is a wonderful creative outlet and when I walk into my favorite fabric store, I actually get giddy and feel like a kid in a candy store. Yep.......I'm addicted. My kids say I need to go to QA (quilter's anonymous. I haven't reached my rock bottom yet.
