I started sewing when I was around 12 years old and made a lot of clothes first for myself and then for our children and even my husband . I had an interest in quilting but got into it when I inherited a big dress box full of already cut out pieces from my mother who had always intended to make a quilt but never did. I eventually made 3 quilts from those triangles...still have a few left...some go back over 50 years. I am now 72 yrs. of age.
My first quilt was a nine patch. It was in a day before the internet and if there were quilt mags out there, I didn't know about them and this quilt I made from crimpoline which was so common then. Believe it or not my daughter still has and uses it.
I made several other quilts over the years but not consistently as we lived in Malawi Africa for several years and it was difficult to get good quality fabric. I did manage to do a couple however from fabric I had taken with me.
After returning to Canada I got into mini quilts and paper piecing but our work kept me from giving a lot of time to quilting. After retirement however, I got busy again and now I am doing quilts for my grandchildren and for charity and recently took up machine quilting, something I had never thought of doing but I am really enjoying it.
