I've loved fibres, textures and colour my whole life, and the wonderful juxtapositions, combinations and marriages that can result from work and play with all those variations. For the past ten years, my love of fibres has been expressed mainly in traditional rughooking, pulling loops of strips of woolen fabric through a woven backing... linen, cotton, burlap, wool, Verel (a somewhat loosely-woven synthetic) or anything that works. Most of what I do is decorative, for table top or wall, though I do love to make a rug or mat for the floor, as well.
I do a little knitting and crocheting, still, and have dabbled in felting. I rarely sew anymore, though that was my passion for many years. It's not forgotten, just on a back burner. I still make the odd quilted piece.
I've lived here and there, mostly across Canada, but also, for one lovely year, in Cambridge, England. Travel has blessed my life many times, and hopefully will again before too long. I've taught a little, learned a lot and love to share my love of fibre... currently, mostly wool and other animal fleeces. Usually, you can find me, entangled in the multi-coloured woolly worms common to rughooking, or dyeing them to suit, hooking loop after loop to make another mat. Smiling. It is a wonderfully meditative and calming craft and art.
