I have always crafted. I got started in jewelry at age 13, when I went in business with a friend to make "love beads" (it was 1968 or9). I sold them at the Wickford Art Festival, and then at a boutique. I got into candle making in a big way for a while, I did Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Sunday School for years, and ran a summer camp. I did many crafts with the kids - from nature crafts to soap making. For years I did crochet and counted cross stitch until carpal tunnel forced me to give that up. I got back into jewelry making then and have enjoyed learning new techniques over the past few years.
