I was introduced to needlework as a child in primary school in New Zealand and have continued to have a passion for creating for myself and my family beautiful and unique items which are 'other than' what is available in the local stores. I do not under any circumstances claim to be proficient or artistic in my endeavours, but they give me so much pleasure in the creation and 'more wrenchingly sometimes' in the giving. From learning basic embroidery stiches on a sports shoe bag at age 8yrs , my mother and grandmother taught me to knit basic stiches and I fell into it enthusiatically teaching myself pattern reading and experimenting with lace and aran stitches in high school. I expanded sewing into stitching my husbands and then my young boys shirts and trousers along with fashion accessories for myself.
I discovered spinning and quilting around the same time......... from there on to anyone other than another addict I became very boring.. I love all aspects of quilting and just wish there were more hours in the day, a greater supply of fabric stores locally ( thank the heavens for ebay) and a deeper pocket to indulge myself. And I thank my friends who supply me with their alpaca shearings and pet sheep fleeces, so I can wallow in my other vices.
