I started sewing at 7 because my Barbie dolls needed clothes - they didn't care if things got hemmed or not. I moved from Barbie doll clothes to clothes for myself in my high school and college years. I then got into quilting, starting with traditional patterns and moving on to art quilts, original wall hangings, and paper piecing.
