I vividly remember the day I learned to knit. My mother was knitting in the front room, in her favorite chair. I can still see her as she sat beside the large fireplace with the window behind her. I asked her if she would teach me to knit. She said, "Climb up on my knee," and I did. She put her arms around me and taught me how to hold the needles in my little hands and to wrap the yarn around them. I am 68 and cheerfully still knitting.
