I was self taught from knittting instructions in a homemaking farm magazine that was filled with a wide variety of recipes and gardening and crafts. I was probably about 10 years old or so. I learned to use my mother's old Singer treadle sewing machine, and became quite proficient making myself gathered skirts and blouses.
