I've been quilting since 2009-started just before my 70th birthday.
The first quilt I tried to make I saw in a machine embroidery magazine. It was a lap quilt which I decided to make king-sized. I had no idea what I was getting into. I usually jump into things without thinking them through. I'm terrible at following patterns, always changing stuff in them and then trying to fix the errors that the alterations resulted in. Well, at least it makes my quilts unique!
I highly recommend taking lessons. They make things so much easier. The Craftsy courses are WONDERFUL. Ann's class on Machine Quilting Large Projects on Your Home Machine revolutionized the way I assemble my quilt sandwich, and her advice on quilting my silk-tie quilt helped me produce something I'm proud of.
TAKE CLASSES! Not only will your quilting improve, but you'll meet new friends and get great ideas.
