My precious mother always said that she wasn't a sewer or quilter. However, she had an old Singer sewing machine that she used to repair seams, hem clothes and patch jeans. We were very poor by financial standards, but rich in love. On my tenth birthday, she told me she'd teach me how to make a quilt top. Although I had never seen her make a quilt, she taught me to make my first quilt top. While I didn't continue to quilt, I splurged in college and bought a brand new portable Singer sewing machine that cost the outrageous amount of $79 - which I financed and paid off through a 3-year loan! While I made clothes for myself and my sons when they were young, I didn't quilt again until I was 50 and rediscovered quilting by taking a local class. It was love at second sight (my first quilt top at age 10 and the next one at age 50)! I absolutely love making quilts for my family, friends and charity. There will never be a class that I'm not interested in taking or a new technique that I don't want to learn.
