My earliest experience was probably salt-dough modelling some unidentifiable decoration that I was so proud of and my parents pretended to adore... But the bug kicked in when I learned to cross-stitch when I was about 7yo. I still remember that process and that I cross-stitched a hot-air balloon. (I later went on to to create minutely detailed cross-stitch/embroidering panels in 1/12 scale for dollshouses). My mother taught me to bake, cook sew by hand and machine and work with patterns before I was 10. She tried to teach me to knit but as she was left-handed, it was almost impossible for me to follow her, she bought me a knitting machine instead! My father taught me woodwork, toy-making, puppetry and dolls house building, I taught myself modelling from fimo and other material. With such a crafty background, it was inevitable that I would work in the arts and I got involved with technical theatre... fast forward 15 years and I am a costume designer/maker and theatre/sewing tutor. I'm also now a parent myself, looking forward to imparting the same passion for crafts that my parents gave me and my crafting is helping me to support my daughter and work from home.
