I began at age 11 when I taught myself to sew. Crafting was not a part of growing up. My mother, grandmother and other relatives knew nothing about sewing, knitting, crocheting or needlepoint. I do not know why sewing was my first interest but I have loved it from the start. I used an old cast iron "White" sewing machine my mom had but didn't know how to use.My parents bought me a brand new Sears Kenmore sewing machine for my high school graduation. What a treat after using the old White making my clothes all through high school! Practice makes perfect and eventually I made my own wedding dress! Then came crochet....all my talents are self taught....cross-stitch, knitting, beading, decorative painting, polymer clay, the list goes on and on. I am extremely happy that my adult daughter has found the love of crafting. She ended up with my old Kenmore machine when I got my Husqvarna dream machine. Her husband bought her a new Singer for Christmas this year! My granddaughter is showing her crafting skills and at age 11 now...I think it's time she learns to sew, on the Kenmore of course since it now belongs to her!!
