My Grandmother was a talented lady. Even after she was blind, she was still able to crochet from memory. She was fancinating to watch. As a youngster, she encouraged me to learn to sew. With her guidance and the home economics teacher, I excelled early and won several awards in class. One project my grandmother taught me was to make smocked cushions, and some 55 years later, I still make them as gifts for friends and they love them. I made my own clothes for years and love working with colour and fabric, but these last few years, my heart has been captured by quilting. I haven't done huge projects, mainly small to mid range and they have been given to many as gifts. But now I'm determined to make a large queen size quilt, and hope to have this project done within the next year. I can sit and sew and lose myself so quickly, and I can't pass a fabric shop without checking it out. In 2006, my husband and I travelled across Canada, and north to the Yukon and Alaska. Before hitting the road, I reseached all the fabric shops on the internet and left with a list of places to stop. I found them all and it was such a thrill to find a new one along the route. I nearly sent my husband insane trying to locate them all, but we had a great time doing it. Lots of good memories have been made in my sewing room.
