I got married when I was nineteen, and started feeling very domestic, Also, I noticed that alot of women my age (at the time) did not knit. So I asked my grandmother to show me the ropes, then I got on youtube and taught myself the rest. I don't use patterns because they confuse me, but Granma says that is more of a blessing than a curse, considering most of the stuff I make turns out okay. =)
