At the age of 50, I got interested in quilting from my sister-in-law, a remarkable quilter with years of experience under her belt. At the age of 50, I got interested in quilting from my sister-in-law, a remarkable quilter with years of experience under her belt. She helped me cut out my first pieced quilt (which is still on my hand-quilting frame being worked on over time), and last year I took Paula Reid's "Stuff and Fluff" free-motion quilting workshop, and I have gone full-blown NUTS about quilting since then!!! I have made six bed quilts, several insulated hot mats, two table runners, and am working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt top. I've been bitten by the bug! Over the years, I have crocheted, knitted socks, and sewn many clothes. In fact, although I am just a youngster of 58 years young, I learned to sew on a treadle sewing machine, as well as sewing a dress entirely by hand---just me, a needle, thread and thimble---no machine whatsoever. My mother had a treadle, but so did my Home Ec class. We had ten treadle machines, and just ONE electric machine! In 1970 (I started High School in 1968) my Home Ec class was updated with 10 new Bernina Electrics! Then the High School burned to the ground on May 12, 1972. I currently own a Bond manual knitting machine, bought in 1988; a Brother Innovis 4000D Sewing/Embroidery machine, and an Accuquilt Studio die cutter and several die. I am planning to invest in an Innova Longarm Quilting Machine in the next six months.
