I have been a crafter ever since I can remember. As a kid I didn't have a lot of fancy toys and I didn't like dolls, but I loved to kool-aid dye pillowcases and glue popsicle sticks together into sculptures.
I learned to knit as an adult from a friend who taught herself. After that I found myself engaging in this "new age" of craft. Ravelry was a big help with that. I lived in Denver during this time - like, early 2000's - and there was a pretty vibrant crafty scene going on there. The library offered (and I believe still does) classes in knitting, bookbinding, and other stuff, and a super hip sewing/knitting shop called Fancy Tiger opened up just down the block from my house. I've since taken a couple of sewing classes and learned some basic needlepoint from yet another friend. These days when I'm home I spend more time in my craft room than anywhere else!
