Always curious .... always fascinated by much about me that is visually pleasing, functional, soft to touch and well made. If I can scratch and sniff it too then that's a plus! Love textiles and timber especially if their design origins have been inspired by nature - think Art Nouveau's plants or floral forms or the charm of an Elizabethan embroidery. Story telling is another intriguing element I appreciate. I'm attracted to items that are ethnically or historically interesting and unusual. There is nothing more pleasant than using well designed sewing accessories or well made tools, I love the embellished surface, wearable art, most tools of trade, embroidery, quilts, visual art and decorative objects. Although colour, pattern, lovely shapes, line, (surprising mark-making), texture and spacial relationships are important elements of a good design the object/art that appeals to me most is often exotic in nature or takes me on a journey. I feel that the core of a successful art work is in its design ... but then you need to throw in a dash of quirkiness, heaps of imagination & skillful technique, before I'm easily seduced. Having been the critic I divert to the satisfaction one experiences when you finish creating something, however basic. It can thrill you to the core to create something from nothing and see it through to completion, else it remains an idea in ones imagination. Women create much that is beautiful about us but often don't receive the accolades they deserve. So here's a pat on the back to all those creaters beavering away on their sewing machines or click-clacking into the wee hours. I don't write blogs, raise kids, or work in a demanding job but I am kind to 3 cats, try to create beauty or learn something new every day, whether it be in the garden, at the swimming pool or the sewing room! Currently I'm developing embroidery skills and am soon to embark on my first crazy quilt project. What fun!
