I was taught by my mother in law on a singer treadal machine which I loved, just doing straight stitches. When I purchased my first sewing machine I made a fully lined Maxi coat for my 3 year old daughter. I have wanted to learn how to make quilts since my daughter was a small child in 1970 but could not figure it out. So in September of 2007 while cleaning out my mother in law's attic(she was moving in with us) I came across her mother in law's (Sadie) old dresses in a suitcase and I dicided then and there I would make quilts for all of the grandchildren of Sadie so I figured it out aand ended up making 5 quilts out of her dresses and I kept the first two I made for me and my husband and gave each of the grandchildren one of the remaining three. Since then I have made over 100 and given away just about all of them to family and friends. I still dont have the courage to free motion so I stitch in the ditch which works fine for now. I love these classes online. I have learned so many new blocks and how easy they are. Now I just have to conquer Free motion.
