When I was growing up my mother did a number of different needlecrafts and I just naturally picked up on things: did some sewing and some embroidery. I didn't start knitting until I was an adult.
My mother as diagnosed with cancer and after her operation I came up and stayed with her. We went to a local yarn shop. (In Madison, Wisconsin) and we got yarn, needles and a book. My mother knew how to knit and she and the book taught me.

I put down the needles later that year and didn't pick them up again for another ten years. But then, I've been knitting ever since. (And thinking about sewing. . .)
