When I was 6, a close family friend gave me a knitting book, needles and 'plastic' yarn, aka Phentex, for Christmas. Being a lefty ,knitting was very hard for me as I tried in vain to knit right handed and found it near impossible (I have since managed - circular needles were the key). At that time, I would hold a needle between my knees, which freed both hands to manipulate the yarn and other needle. I laboured to make a garter stitch headband using this method. I still remember how the 'yarn' would squeak on the needles. I wish I still had that first project now. It looked more like a porcupine than a headband and would be useful in the classes I have taught, showing new knitters that we all had to start somewhere.
The book also included a section on crochet. Deciding to give knitting a rest, I picked up a hook and proceeded to make Barbie the coolest wardrobe ever.
I have been an avid fiber artist ever since. Cycling between crochet and knitting projects, I am never am without one and am thrilled I can share them here.
Thank you for taking the time to check them out.
