I don't remember not crafting in one form or another, though long academic and executive careers, and 40 surgeries resulting in disabilities, have meant that whilst I am able to do most crafts, it is only now in retirement that I am finally trying to find time to focus on crafts.
Because of chronic pain across my arms, shoulders & back, I usually have to work on several projects, for brief periods, at any one time (lace & chunky yarns; hand quilting and crochet, sewing and embroidery) which is frustrating both because it tends to keep the house a bit of a mess, and because I would rather begin and end a project so I can wear it or give it to a friend and move on to the next project -- that was certainly my way of working as a professor and as a CEO. I am very lucky though that neither my assistance dog nor my cats ever touch my work.
