I like patterned fabric, but I love solids. I took a fabric dyeing class a few years ago and ever since have dyed most of the fabric that I sew. The depth of color, texture, and color blending of hand-dyed fabric is unmatched by anything you can buy at the store. Working with so many solids also means that the pattern of the quilt itself is the star of the show.
