I do not craft. I knit and I quilt. I have done couture sewing and pattern design and still make clothing occasionally. It irritates me no end that these needle arts are defined as a "craft" as craft is currently defined in our society. It irritates me no end that these needle arts are defined as a "craft" as craft is currently defined in our society. If "craft" equated to a journeyman level craft as defined in my father's time when learning a craft was done with apprenticeship and hard work, it would carry some weight. Because we are a society of day jobs and crafts hobbies, what once were needle arts learned at our mom's knee are now "crafts". Yuck. I think that diminishes the art. And that makes me a needle arts snob. I can live with that.
