When I was six years old, a knitting kit was a Christmas present I received. My brother, who was eleven, helped me read the instructions and I worked out using the needles and yarn. Then, we asked our grandmother if we were doing it right. I've been knitting since then.
My other grandmother taught me to embroider and tat. My mother taught me to sew.
Now, I have the joy of teaching others. I taught my sons and daughters how to bobbin lace, my daughters still lace when they can.
I've been quilting since 1976 and have made more that 30 quilts of all sizes miniature to king size.
I sew for customers, alterations and some custom work. Making stuffed toys is fun, the animals develop personality as I embroider their faces and make their clothes. I make them as gifts, but sometimes I become attached and don't want to give them away.
Beading is like meditation once I get the rhythm going of a crochet bead rope or peyote bead bracelet. Also, it is so nice to wear a piece of beadwork that I've made. I give some beaded bracelets as gifts, which leads to selling some.
