I've been quilting for years. I learned from the older women at church who pieced quilts and then set them up in quilting frames in the church basement. We would gather around the quilt one day a week and work on it until it was finished. I learned the basics of how to make the quilt sandwich, put it in the frames, and either hand quilting it or tying it with yarn. One of the women would volunteer to take it home to do the binding. We gave quilts to families who were in need. Working together to accomplish a goal, camaraderie, and service were all personal benefits that we received. Best of all I learned to quilt and have tried to pass on my skills to others whenever given the opportunity. Quilting is definitely therapy. It's a multidimensional activity.
