I picked up a few basics in sewing and embroidery from my mother growing up. She was (and is) a master seamstress who can sew pretty much anything. My primary interest when I was younger was embroidery and hand needlework. Over the years I delved into various different crafts - pottery, ceramics, jewelry-making, etc. Eventually life intervened and I put crafting aside. In November of 2012 my husband, who obviously knows me much better than I know myself, got me a sewing machine for my birthday. In the ten years we've been together I had NEVER expressed any interest whatsoever in sewing, but he decided I wanted a machine. As it turns out, he was right! I have been sewing nonstop ever since. The day after getting the machine I got an assortment of beginner sewing books and got a ton of fabric, patterns and supplies at the local JoAnn's and Hancock Fabrics. My sister - to whom I owe a great debt of gratitude - then told me about the Craftsy website. Since then I have taken several classes online and made some adorable pajama eaters for my grandchildren, several sets of elf shoes, a hoodie that I LOVE (Sewing with Knits), a super-cute top (second Sewing with Knits project) that was way too small for me (poor choice of fabric - NO reflection on the class), and tons of other small things. I LOVE sewing, and Craftsy has a whole lot to do with it! A lot of great-looking final results in a short period of time have built up my confidence very quickly, and my main problem now is figuring out who I can make things for next!
